Students huddled around their phones, ready to see the Student Council announcements come out on Instagram.
The @strathhavensc account released the information on Monday, May 11, naming junior Noah White president, and juniors Astrid Beach and Weiler Graham vice presidents. The announcement also included the announcements for the 15 officers and two Student School Board representatives.
“When I won president, it was a really surreal feeling,” White said. “The competition was really steep. I felt, especially this year, everyone was qualified, and anyone could have been the president.”
White is excited to continue growing Haven’s freshman mentoring program.
“I’ve been a freshman, but it’s been a minute, so [freshman mentoring] kind of reunited me with how it is to be a freshman, and what they need to know coming into high school,” White said.
Vice president Astrid Beach is excited to work to improve attendance to sporting events and clubs, as well as continuing to follow through with a great Homecoming dance.
“We all really worked towards making homecoming this big fun event,” Beach said. “I think we did a great job on that last year, but this year I think we kind of want to do that even more, and keep that energy going throughout the whole week, instead of having it just that one day.”
Vice president Weiler Graham is also excited to build more relationships within the new Student Council.
“We’re going to try to do a lot more bonding with the group, so that more people are participating in all of the events that we’re doing,” Graham said. “We want to have a really close, tight-knit group that all has a goal of making the school a better place.”
The president and the two vice presidents want to ensure that the Haven community knows they are open to conversation whenever.
“I want everyone to know how much I care about this school, how much I care about everyone’s opinions and thoughts, and that I really just want what’s best for everyone [at Haven],” Graham said.
