It’s a bittersweet feeling, according to seniors, as the end of high school quickly approaches. May is always full of end-of-year events, and on May 29, just a few days before senior finals, the class of 2026 attended their Senior Breakfast.
The students were called down to the cafeteria around 8 a.m. to find food, booklets to sign and tape into their yearbooks, and time to connect with their peers.
“Seeing all my friends was nice,” senior William Reitmeyer said. “Getting everyone to sign my yearbook, writing some fun messages, it’s all good.”
Haven’s yearbook is delivered in the fall, so the yearbook staff covers events through graduation and beyond. The booklets are given out at the end of the school year so that students get signatures as well as a yearbook with as much coverage as possible.
Senior Breakfast reminded the graduating class how close they are to the end, which also means leaving their four long years of high school behind.
“It’s a little sad. It’s like, we’re ready to go, [but] it feels a little bittersweet because I’m going to miss all my friends,” senior Orli Schoff said.
While it’s sad to move away from friends and let go of memories, freedom from high school is an exciting prospect.
“[I’m looking forward to] the freedom that comes with [college], feeling like I’m actually in control of what I do and everything,” senior Lilah Santore said.
College is on many senior’s minds, but before their fresh start, a summer of just being Haven alumni is ahead.
“I honestly just look forward to finally getting some rest after these four long years. I don’t have to worry too much about what I’m doing next year because it’s going to be a surprise,” senior Yuhang Li said.
Big changes like graduating high school can be scary, but it’s a welcome change for Santore.
“It’s going to be so sad, but it’s definitely for the best,” she said. “I’m so ready.”
