As the team took the field to honor four players who have helped shape the program, it was clear that Senior Night was about more than the final score.
Before the game began, seniors Katie Trout, Keira Mattai, Brooklyn Taylor, and Clara Davis were recognized and walked through the spirit tunnel to cheers from teammates, friends, and family, marking one of their final moments on their home field.
The game opened with early momentum, as sophomore Blake Fairbanks put Haven on the board with a 1-0 lead in the first quarter. Garnet Valley responded with two goals to take the advantage, but sophomore midfielder Tessa Dignazio answered with 3:43 remaining in the quarter to tie the game at 2-2.
Garnet Valley built its lead with a series of goals in the second quarter. Still, Haven continued to push offensively. Junior Georgia Graham added a late goal to set the score at 4-5.
Although Haven fell short, players emphasized the team’s resilience.
“I think we didn’t start as strong as we should have,” Mattai said. “But I’m really proud that we stayed in the game.”
For Trout, the night carried immense meaning beyond the outcome.
“I love this team, and celebrating everything we’ve built over the past four years was really special,” Trout said. “We played hard. It just didn’t go our way.”
Dignazio, who led the team with three goals, also pointed to the bigger picture.
“We’re going to adjust,” Dignazio said. “We’ll flip the page. We’ve got bigger games to look forward to, and we can’t stick on this one.”
As the season continues, the team looks to build on its effort and carry forward the energy of senior night.
