As guests poured into the Haven gym on March 20, it was clear that the turnout for the freshman-sophomore dance was not exclusively underclassmen.

As per Haven tradition, a majority of underclassmen extended their invitation to a junior or senior by inviting them along as their date. This custom was established years ago to share the fun of the dance with the whole student body.

“The most memorable part of the night was probably when some guys in this big group tried to lift one of their friends up onto their shoulders and then nearly dropped him,” freshman Lucia Lam said. ”Everyone was slipping on all the orange peels that had ended up on the dance floor.”

While older students dominated the front of the pack while dancing, freshman Charlotte Garson could be found right up next to the DJ booth, jumping along to the music while throwing her hands in the air.

“It’s always super fun when everyone starts going on the dance floor and interacting with each other,” Garson said. “When they play the more hype songs and the whole mosh pit starts dancing, you can tell it will be something that you will remember.”

The food and refreshments at the dance were donated by freshmen, while the sophomore class cabinet led the planning. Sophomore Lucy Dolle is a part of the sophomore class cabinet and helped lead the organization.

“A lot of different people came up with some really creative and unique ideas for what they thought the best theme would be, and then we all voted on our favorite,” Dolle said.

The cabinet ultimately decided on the theme, Starry Night, which sparked a trend of navy blue, yellow, and gold clothing by many of the attendees.

“Once we picked the theme, we had to get the decorations to put up around the gym,” Dolle said. “It was pretty cool seeing all of our ideas that we had on paper come to life and be something that we did. It was pretty rewarding to see that we could make this happen.”
