On Friday, February 14, the seventh-seeded Panthers took vengeance after last week’s 50-52 loss by defeating the 10th-seeded Academy Park Knights.
The Valentine’s night home game was a rematch in the first round of PIAA District I 5A playoffs.
“We had to get revenge,” freshman Maddie Fanning said. “We were going to win this game. I think last week we were all so excited because [of] the senior night, so this game, we were all here on time, and we locked in.”
The Panthers were up during each quarter of the game, finishing off 26-9 by the end of the first half. Heading into this game, the team had to adjust to the new defensive challenges they faced in their previous match-up.
“We really worked on still getting [Academy Park] open regardless of face guarding and utilizing our whole team instead of playing selfishly,” senior Olivia Voshell said.
During the second half of the game, the Panthers continued to dominate offensively with seven points and two assists by Fanning, ending the game with a final score of 52-34.
“It’s a team game, a lot of people contributed,” Fanning said. “Their defense is really good, so I know I couldn’t go up all by myself.”
The Panthers will travel to Radnor on Tuesday, February 18, at 7 p.m. The Panthers look to continue their streak as they head into the second round of playoffs after losing to the Raptors twice in the regular season.
“It’s very hard to beat a team three times,” head coach Brandi Johnson said. “We’re going to come ready. We have some time to practice, and I’m looking forward to it.”
