The Strath Haven Varsity Women’s field hockey team defeated Lower Merion on their senior night at King Field on October 8.
Entering the game with a 0-14-1 record, Haven pulled off a 2-1 comeback during the fourth quarter with two goals from sophomore Haley Cline, contributing to their first win of the season.
“I came into the game wanting to win and just wanting to have a great night,” Cline said.
The Panthers conceded a goal with 9:54 left in the second quarter. The half ended 1-0 for Lower Merion.
The first Haven goal came with 10:47 left in the fourth quarter, tying up the game. With 5:16 left in the fourth quarter, Cline was able to get the ball in the back of the net and give the Panthers the lead.
“We’ve been working hard all season and it finally came together,” senior Natalie D’Onofrio said. “It just felt so great. I’m so thankful for this team.”
Sophomore goalkeeper Laila Roe also achieved a significant milestone in her season by recording her 300th save during the match.
Around 15 students cheered from the student section to support their team.
“We here for the love of the game. We here for the people that we support. Let’s go Haven!” senior Scott Saxe said.
With three games left in the regular season, the Panthers will travel to Interboro on Monday, October 14, at 3:45 p.m.
