With Haven’s close proximity to Philadelphia, students will be flocking to the city in droves this summer to catch some of their favorite artists live.
Philadelphia summer 2025 is shaping up to be an electrifying time for music enthusiasts, with a lineup packed full of legendary artists and rising stars alike. Whether you prefer pop, rock, indie, rap, or country, there’s a show for you.
Pop music, the genre full of star-studded talent and mainstream hits, is making a resurgence in 2025. In previous years, genres like rap and R&B have dominated the charts, and it seems that pop music is joining them. Many listeners are pleased with the refreshing excitement and vibrance that has been incorporated into modern hits, though there are still many who prefer the iconic sounds of older pop.
Philadelphia is welcoming some of the most iconic pop artists to the stage this summer, with performances ranging from timeless classics to modern chart-toppers. Barry Manilow, known for his unforgettable hits and recognizable sound, along with Ringo Starr and His All Starr Band, will dazzle older fans. Manilow will perform at the Wells Fargo Center on May 24 and Starr will perform at the Mann center on June 15.
Meanwhile, catering to a younger demographic, Katy Perry, The Weeknd, and Benson Boone, some of the biggest names in pop, will take over the city. Perry will perform at the Wells Fargo Center on August 9, The Weeknd will perform at Lincoln Financial Field on July 30-31, and Boone will perform during the tail end of summer at the Wells Fargo Center, on September 3.
Rock and Alternative music is a timeless genre full of legends and heavy-hitters. Rock music truly will never go out of style. With electrifying sounds and deep lyrics, millions connect to the genre. Many fans hope that rock will make a comeback in future years; however for the time being, fans are enjoying the classic hits.
This summer, Philly is hosting some of the greatest rock legends and alternative stars. Fans of metal will be thrilled to see Metallica at Lincoln Financial Field on May 23 and 25, delivering their familiar riffs and iconic sound to a massive crowd. Meanwhile, the remaining members of Alice in Chains, with their signature blend of magnetic rhythms and revolutionary vocals, will perform on May 10 at the Freedom Mortgage Pavilion to deliver a night of nostalgic hits and life changing tunes. Some other events to look forward to include Vampire Weekend from May 30 to-31 at The Met Philadelphia, The Offspring at the Freedom Mortgage Pavilion on July 29, Nine Inch Nails at the Wells Fargo center on August 27, My Chemical Romance at Citizens Bank Park on August 15, and The Pixies on July 22-23 at The Fillmore.
In 2025, fans have heard the blending of folk, rock, and pop to create captivating new sounds. Rising stars like Gigi Perez and Japanese Breakfast have taken over the indie scene with soul shattering lyrics that make you think, while more notable artists like Hozier and Lord Huron stay true to their storytelling style. Indie music, at its heart, has always been about authenticity and raw emotion.
Hozier, known for his haunting voice and poetic lyrics, will take the stage at Freedom Mortgage Pavilion on June 10, possibly performing hits like Take Me to Church and Too Sweet. Japanese Breakfast will bring her dreamy and innovative energy to The Met Philadelphia on May 15 and 16. Some other artists to catch include Lucy Dacus at the Make The World Better Concert Weekend at FDR park on July 15 and 16 and Lord Huron on August 1 at the Mann Center.
R&B and rap music has been consistently popular among listeners over the years.The catchy beats and deep lyrics have cemented the genre a hit among fans. Some artists use their music to speak on societal issues while others create music that just makes you feel energized. Fans are lucky, as there always seems to be something new and exciting dropping.
In early May, many Haven students flocked to the Kendrick Lamar and SZA concert; however, many also were unable to attend.
“I thought about going to the Kendrick concert back in May, but I just got swamped with work and AP testing so I ended up not attending,” senior Tianyue Wang said.
This incredible concert set the tone for the rest of the performances to come in future months, hopefully some of which Haven students will now have the time to attend.
Philly is welcoming some of the most influential voices in rap and R&B this summer, including Nas and Wu-Tang Clan. These legendary artists are known for creating some of the genre defining hits beloved by so many fans today. Nas will perform on July 25 at the Mann center, and Wu-Tang Clan will perform on July 18 at the Wells Fargo Center.
Senior JJ Bohr is gearing up for the unforgettable night to come.
“I’m excited to see Wu-Tang in mid July. This is probably my last chance to see them, which is a pretty big deal,” Bohr said.
Later this summer, Tyler, the Creator, the hip-hop star known for pushing boundaries, will play the Wells Fargo Center on July 5-6, igniting the crowd with his unpredictable and high-energy performance tactics.
Country music promises to bring southern charm and an enchanting twang to Philly fans this summer. The genre is known for its deep exploration of topics such as heartbreak, love, and loss. Many songs include the iconic sounds of harmonicas and stringed instruments such as the banjo and the guitar, creating a comforting tone.
Country fans are in for a treat, with an exciting lineup of artists bringing the southern vibes to Philadelphia. Post Malone and Jelly Roll will deliver a collaborative performance at Citizens Bank Park on May 24. Meanwhile, fans can catch Luke Bryan, one of the biggest names in modern country music, at Freedom Mortgage Pavilion on June 6. Fans should also save the date for Thomas Rhett on July 11 at the Freedom Mortgage Pavillion.
