The varsity volleyball team defeated Merion Mercy Academy 3-1 at home on October 18, the last game of the regular season.
Haven won the first, third, and fourth sets. Senior Lauren McGinn and junior Eliza Jauregui recorded many kills from spikes.
“I think it’s a great entire season, something we’ve been working super hard to be able to secure these wins,” McGinn said.
From the opening serve, the Panthers showed their teamwork and skill. They were able to use effective communication to create blocks and kills.
The second set was close, ending 25-21 for Merion Mercy Academy.
“Our goal for this game was to really come out swinging and do all the things we would be doing at playoffs and not play down to a team that we were pretty confident we could beat,” senior captain Mali Rao said.
The Panthers dominated the first, third, and fourth sets, winning 25-12, 25-13, and 25-16. They provided many points off of blocks from senior Violet Abrahamsson, sophomore Cecilia Lindsay, and Jauregui.
“We definitely wanted to finish the regular season really strong,” Rao said. “We have some really big playoff games coming up, and the playoff rounds are single elimination.”
The Panthers concluded the regular season with a 16-4 record and will start their playoff run next week.
“We know we’re going to face some tough competition over the next week,” McGinn said. “So, [we need] to control our half and clean up and solidify our play.”
