The varsity volleyball team beat Central Bucks East at home on Tuesday, October 25, in the first home playoff game of the year.
Haven finished the regular season with a 12-5 record. They took the playoff game in five sets in front of a crowd of rowdy parents and students. The audience was treated to a fantastic game as Haven came back from a rough first set, dropping just one of the next three, leading to a close 16-14 victory in the final set.
The head coach Mary Kirchner was optimistic about this team from the beginning of the year.
“When I first met this group of players, that was the goal from the very start, that we were gonna go to postseason,” Kirchner said.
Going into the second set the team seemed to have a lot more energy. Coach Kirchner said she reminded them of the simple things between sets.
“I told them to go out and play the game that they know how to play instead of letting CBE control the pace of the game,” she said.
Senior co-captain Michaela Santisi knew the key to the win. “We are really, really big on teamwork, it was just… it was crazy,” she said.
Coach Kirchner would like to point out some people for exceptional play in this game and throughout the year. “Jill Surkis and Lauren McGinn are consistent and have been helping us all season… Aislin O’Neill came in with that match-winning serve,” she said.
The team will try to keep the season alive as they take on Council Rock South in an away game at the opposing team’s school on Thursday, October 27 at 5 p.m.
