Thirteen college-committed student-athletes officially signed off to their future colleges at the library during fifth block on November 13. The ceremony was a way for the athletes to get together and celebrate their hard work and success.
National Signing Day—November 13 this year— is the first day that a high school senior can sign a binding National Letter of Intent for a college sport with a school that is a member of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) in the United States.
Senior Ben Milligan committed to Dickinson College for baseball at the signing ceremony.
“It’s a great honor to be here, around all these people who are going to all these great colleges,” Milligan said. “It feels nice to be in this company and to be able to be honored for something me and all the other people here have worked so hard for.”
A sense of achievement fueled the positive atmosphere.
“It’s rewarding knowing that the hard work we put in those years–sacrificing, missing things– is finally paying off,” senior Annie Dignazio said.
Dignazio, along with seniors Mallory Cavanagh and Kate Fox, plans to continue lacrosse by playing at the collegiate level.
“We have worked so hard to get to this point, whether academically or athletically, lots of work was put in,” Cavanagh said.
Throughout high school, these athletes have been putting in extra work to make sure they can succeed both academically and in their sport. At the end of the day, the students signing are most excited to be able to continue their passion for their sport after high school.
“It’s so nice to know that my last season at Haven won’t be my last season playing lacrosse,” Fox said. “We all get to keep playing what we love and doing what we love.”
