On Feb. 8, Haven wrestling hosted a meet against Penncrest. The final score was 37-24, and with a larger team, Haven had the advantagethat night. However, when they did wrestle, the team admitted it wasn’t their best.
Senior Chris Andraos spoke about the team’s general performance.
“I feel like we could’ve wrestled a lot better. You know, the score shows that we won, but every match we wrestled head-to-head we lost, and it’s not okay. Those matches, we really should’ve won.”
Assistant coach Josh Phillips expanded on Andraos’ point, explaining how the team has to stay calm the entire match. He didn’t express any worries about their physical condition.
“They’re in really good shape, they’re really good in the room, they got really good wind, they go the whole six minutes, they know their technique, and right now, we just have to let the guys know that on the mat, they can’t panic,” he said.
After the regular season, Haven became the District I South Team Champs for the second year in a row.
Haven will be continuing their wrestling season this upcoming weekend on March 3 and 4, where seven wrestlers will be representing Haven as they travel to Souderton High School, competing in the PIAA Southeast Regional Championship.
