Decked in pink for breast cancer awareness, on April 24, the Girls’ Varsity Softball team went against Upper Darby and won 7-3.
“It was more of a team idea,” junior third baseman Ella Liberi said. “We got our pink socks. We got some ribbons. We got little rubber bands. It was just an exciting thing.”
The win was made by solid batting and a good defense infield and outfield.
“We had some of our freshmen come in, had some great hits, so we’re super proud of them. It was just all around, we played out well,” Liberi said.
Though a new wind-up gave sophomore pitcher Annika Slootmaker slight problems, she produced strong pitches, pushing the team’s strong performance.
“I was trying out some new things, a new wind up, and I messed up my timing a little bit, but by the end [of the game], I got it,” Slootmaker said.
The win was also possible because of a strong sense of team commitment.
“We got a really young team this year, only one senior. They’ve been stepping up a lot. We had a really good game,” Slootmaker said.
