On Tuesday, October 1st, the Strath Haven Panthers (11-2) played against the Marple Newtown Tigers ( 7-5-2) at George L. King Field with a 2-0 score, putting the Panthers in a better position for playoffs.
The Panthers continue to work hard with games all next week, and their last season game at home against Great Valley on Friday, October 18th.
Head Coach Gino Miraglia and Coach Thomas Adams have coached this team together for a long time, and continue to show love for the team and the girls. Seniors Mallory Cavanagh, Annie Dignazio, Maeve Hanifin, and Kaia Smith have played together for 13 years, in high school, and as their journey comes to an end, they reflect on the love they have for each other.
“On behalf of the senior class, I think they’ve done a great job building a culture around this team that everyone wants to be a part of,” Dignazio said. “Even during a season we didn’t do too great, I found myself wanting to come here every day and I don’t know what I’m gonna do next year without it.”
Miraliga has enjoyed coaching all the seniors, and states how the girls will be missed on and off the field.
“They’re just amazing girls,” Miraglia said. “I couldn’t ask for better character and leadership and hardworking kids, too.”
Dignazio and freshman Maddie Fanning scored two goals to secure the win for Haven.
Smith, Cavanagh, and Hanifin supported the offense with strong defense, with additional help from juniors Adelyn and Clara Davis. the team ended the game with a win and smiles before the senior night pizza party.
The Panthers will travel to Lower Merion on October 8th at 4 p.m.
