Haven Volleyball hosted the annual Bringing Hope Home fundraising game on October 10.

Bringing Hope Home is an organization that provides financial and emotional support to local families who are affected by cancer.

“It was founded by a man named Paul. His wife, when she was nine months pregnant, was diagnosed with stage IV Hodgkin’s [Lymphoma],” School Programs & External Events Manager Brieanne Rogers said. “We help families in six different states.”

Despite support from their family, Paul’s job, and their health insurance, it was still hard for the family, according to Roger.

“One of [Paul’s wife’s, Nicole’s], final wishes was to help other people who did not have the same support she had,” she explained.

Senior and captain Gigi Fiordimondo said that she and her team enjoy the Bringing Hope Home Games.

“We are all working towards one goal to help people who are struggling,” she said. “It really is a great motivator.”

In addition to the charity event, it was also a great night for the varsity volleyball squad, with them winning three out of four sets.

“We played really well together—as a team. Even though we lost one set, we had a great, almost, come back when we scored six points,” Fiordimondo said.

“Our libero, Aislin O’Neill, provided great passes,” she said. “Our go-to outsides, Jill [Surkis] and Lauren [McGinn], are always there for us when we need them.”

She hoped the game would prepare the team for their October 12 game.

“We have a big game on Wednesday against Garnet Valley. If we win that, we will be in a tie for the Central League Title. That could be really big for us.”

The volleyball team lost that game on Wednesday, October 12, finishing 0-3. Their next game is an away game on Oct. 14 against Sun Valley High School.
